For September, the NY Tech Meetup took its members "back to school" with presentations from technology departments at both Columbia University and New York University (NYU). 

The presentations were of:

• Greendot, a "computer vision tech" developed at NYU: this technology tracks body language with a series of green dots and they have developed an iPhone application to gather research from the field.
• CuZero, "advanced video search" developed at Columbia: allows users to search images for specific content as if they are text.
• Musically Intelligent Machines, developed at Columbia: analyzes and categorizes the content of a song.  Its creator envisions it being used by people in advertising looking for a specific type of song for a campaign for example.
• "Teaching Robots to See," developed at NYU: this presentation consisted of showing a robot created by the participants in the program which could see obstacles and maneuver around them.

Before concluding, Typepad co-founder Anil Dash took questions from the audience for Dan Bricklin, co-inventor of the spreadsheet.  Bricklin also got a few laughs from the audience when, during his talk about his work on the spreadsheet, he showed early television advertisements from Microsoft and Lotus.
