Brightcove CEO Jeremy Allaire was the sole participant in Wednesday night's NY Video meetup at Tishman Auditorium in New York University's Vanderbilt Hall.  In a conversation with organizer Yaron Samid on stage, he discussed:

  • the company's interest in delivering video to multiple platforms
  • how the company began offering its technology during a period of online video piracy
  • the serendipitous timing of The Wall Street Journal's Walt Mossberg's review of their technology in the company's early days

Samid also asked Allaire about the rumored talks with Google.  Allaire would only say that the company is both profitable and healthy.  Also, he spoke about Viddler's just-launched advertising network, discussing the value of such networks.

Before moving on to questions from the audience, Allaire highlighted some trends which he sees in the online-video business, namely that there has been a retrenchment in ad buys due to the recession, there have been some breakaway successes like Hulu, but they're not meaningful businesses yet, the cable industry's interest in "tv everywhere" will be transformative, that syndicating content is becoming more the norm, and that online video is becoming a reality.

You'll find the video from Livestream on the meetup group's Web site here.
